This Sunday, 31st May 2026, is Trinity Sunday in the church calendar, or the first Sunday after Pentecost, and is 8 weeks after Easter Sunday.
It’s a day when some clergy struggle with their sermon prep, when they have to work out how to explain the concept of God being in three parts – father, son, and holy spirit – but also one. Distinct but somehow one.
Personally I wouldn’t have the theological know-how to try and explain it, so I’ll leave it up to your parish priest. Let me know how it goes!
Trinity Sunday is also the patronal festival of Christ Church Cathedral, where I was a Lay Vicar Choral for 8 years. That’s because the proper dedication of the cathedral is:
The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, commonly known as Christ Church
Bit of a mouthful, which is why most of the time they just stick with Christ Church.
There’s a reunion for past choristers for Evenson on Trinity Sunday, and I did think about going along, but this weekend is already going to be so busy, and I don’t think I have the time or energy to make it.
But I wish my former colleagues well as they take a romp through Dyson in D and Stainer – I saw the Lord!
